In the so-called talking therapies, the therapist does not talk much at all. Why is this? And why do we think it is a good thing?

At this workshop Farhad Dalal will draw on psychological and sociological theories of relationality to argue for an alternative paradigm, that of therapist as conversationalist. This view leads to a questioning and reconsideration of some of the taken-for-granted norms of therapeutic technique in individual and group work.

Dr. Farhad Dalal is a psychotherapist and group analyst, and a trainer at the Institute of Group Analysis. He is currently based in South Devon where he has a psychotherapy practice and he also works with organisations. His publications include"Taking the Group Seriously, (1998) and Race, Colour and the Processes of Racialization (2002)."
